About the author

Kavitha Rao is a journalist and author based in Bangalore, India. She writes on current affairs, the arts, health and the environment for a number of international magazines including the Guardian, the New York Times, Quartz, NPR, Mint and several others. Her first book, “Everything You Wanted to Know About Freelance Journalism (but didn’t know whom to ask)” . a guide to breaking into freelance journalism, was published by Westland in 2014.

“The Librarian” is her first novel, inspired by a news story she did on a struggling heritage library. When Kavitha is not writing, she is usually reading. She enjoys literary fiction, historical fiction, and detective novels.
